"Laura is an outstanding instructor. She clearly loves what she does, has a tremendous depth of experience and knowledge, and is very skilled and creative. She uses multiple approaches for teaching the material so students can use what works best for them as individuals. She knows what challenges will arise for those who are new to tapestry and she provides practical solutions to help. She also brings a multicultural perspective to the class as she shares her detailed knowledge of the folklore, history, songs, and weaving techniques of centuries of tapestry around the world. Wonderful class for an introduction to the artistry, technical skills, and history of tapestry...and, you end up with a very nice landscape tapestry."

Level 2

Build on the beginner course with intermediate techniques and concepts. These kits often include additional tools and supplies as well. Students should have taken the Level-1 course first because concepts, skills, and tutorials will be referenced, as well as tools in the beginner kit used for the project.

"Open studio is a great opportunity to schedule some time to work on my unfinished projects that need attention. If I don’t set aside dedicated time to work on these things, I know I’d fill my time up with other items on my “to do” list. Plus, it’s fun to socialize with friends outside of class! "I love attending Open Studio time. It is so fun to reconnect with people I have met in class and to see what everyone is working on. It’s also a great place to get feedback and advice if I encounter a trouble spot on a project. Spending a couple of hours with other artists to chat and learn from each other is very motivating.".

These courses do not expire. The print material is available for digital download, and the password-protected tutorials do not expire. You can take a long as you need with the course, and dip back for reviews as necessary.

Yes! Even with previous experience, students have found great benefit in the broad foundational skills available in the beginner courses. You will also want the tools and techniques to use in the intermediate and advanced courses! Different teachers have unique approaches to a medium, and you will find a fresh slant and diverse material and techniques, even in my beginner level offerings.

Click on the quick view of each offering. This includes a detailed list of what is covered in the course, the materials included, supplies you should provide yourself, and learning outcomes. These are unique and specific to each course.

Self Study students are welcome to email me with questions at any time. Please take a picture of your work-in-progress, as this really informs my response! You can also book one-on-one Zoom time with me, in either hour or half-our increments for personalized help, troubleshooting, or demos.

Once you learn new skills, it’s important to master them with practice. I have created a series of skill builder projects as kits with instructions, focused around different themes for each medium at each level. I release new ones each year as well! These are designed to help you hone and stretch your current skills, so you can be ready to add new ones with the next level. Students have really appreciated this offering and enjoyed the wide variety of projects I’ve designed and crafted!

These courses, as well as many others, may be included in live online Zoom classes through a variety of host organizations, as well as through Erindale Tapestry Studio. Explore the current class calendar at the bottom of this page.
