Create a delightful and cozy pillow that also celebrates the beauty of our farm’s sheep. Geometric tapestry one one side, full-fleece sheepskin on the other.
Class is held Sundays, 10am to noon pm Central via Zoom. We’ll meet November 5, 12, and 19, and December 3, 10, and 17.
Sessions will be recorded for students to use up to one month after our final gathering.
This project is excellent for students who have completed Level 2, while still being a very enjoyable project for more advanced students as well. Select Erindale Tapestry Studio weaving tutorials from Level 2 will be important resources for this project to review techniques. If you have not participated in Laura Berlage’s tapestry course, please reach out to see if this is a good project kit for you.
This kit is inspired by Norwegian design and offers great practice for weaving interlock technique, working with a grid chart, and keeping your sides nice and straight. Also, you’ll be learning some leatherworking skills! This project is designed to be made on an 18×18 inch frame loom (the same as in the classes). The kit comes with a PDF digital download essay of process photographs and descriptions that walk you through starting, weaving, and finishing your piece. This will be sent to the email that you use in the checkout.
The physical part of the kit includes the colorful weft wool (from our sheep!), sheepskin pillow back (also from our sheep), 2 glover’s needles and faux sinew for stitching, and the graph chart for the pattern. If this part of the kit needs to be shipped to you, shipping options are available in the checkout process. This kit does not include the warp (Maysville cotton carpet warp is recommended), loom, or hand tools (available separately). You will also want a needle and thread and either fabric clips or clothes pins to complete the finishing of the tapestry and 8 safety pins and a 12 inch filler pillow for assembly.
Finished dimensions for the tapestry are 12.5 x 12.5 inches. The kit makes one pillow.
Please make sure the email you use during the checkout is the email you’d prefer Laura uses for class communications. This is the email that will receive your Zoom link before the first class. Thank you, and happy creating!
If you need to have your kit shipped, please add this in the checkout process.
