Punch Needle Kit, Geometric Biscornu, L2
$210.00
Looking for a skill builder after completing Laura’s “Fine Point Punch Needle Rug Hooking, Level-2” course? This project is excellent for students who have completed Level 2 who want to continue practicing their skills. Select Erindale Tapestry Studio punch needle tutorials from Level 2 will be important resources for this project to review techniques. If you have not participated in Laura Berlage’s course, please reach out to see if this is a good project kit for you.
Monk’s cloth already provides a wonderful grid. This class explores how to use that grid to make beautiful and precise geometric designs that visually pop, influenced by the beautiful textile traditions of the American Southwest. A biscornu is a French shape, often used for making pin cushions, but here we expand that size to create a pillow or foot stool, with button tufting at the center. The process magically takes two squares and creates a zig-zag edged circle!
This is an intermediate level project that uses size #14 and #13 Oxford fine point punches. Previous experience is highly recommended for this project. Please use an 18×18 inch Oxford gripper strip frame.
Additional materials you will need:
- A piece of upholstery fabric in a color/pattern of your choice (a yard is sufficient).
- 4-inch high density foam in a 16-inch circle (often sold for bar stools, available on Amazon).
- Long needle (yarn tatting needle or doll’s eye needle works well).
- Tapestry needle.
- Tape measure or yard stick.
- Sharpie.
- 2 sturdy buttons of your choice.
- Small amount of poly-fill or wool roving or batting for filling out corners.
- Waxed linen for button tufting.
The physical part of the kit includes colorful wool yarn (from our sheep!) and monk’s cloth backing with hand-traced design. If the physical part of the kit needs to be shipped to you, shipping options are available in the checkout process. This kit does not include the frame or tools mentioned above (available separately if needed). You will also want a needle and thread and sewing pins to finish the hem.
Makes 1 pillow/foot stool.
Enjoy!
