Looking for a skill builder with an interest twist? This project is excellent for students who have completed Level-2 who want to continue practicing their skills plus learn something new. Select Erindale Tapestry Studio punch needle tutorials from Level 1 and 2 will be important resources for this project to review techniques. If you have not participated in Laura Berlage’s course, please reach out to see if this is a good project kit for you.
This delightful project takes your punch needle rug hooking skills and applies them to a beautiful project that you can use in so many ways, with instructions included to turn it into a pillow. Design is appoximately 11×11 inches when complete. Instead of punching on the traditional monk’s cloth, this uses an upcycled colored cotton fabric, which is lovely to see even in areas that are not punched. Learn some of the story behind Celtic knots as well as how you can draw this design yourself in the future. Usin a gripper strip frame is recommended, but you can make a Q-snap frame work. Punches needed are the Oxford “mini” (14) and “mini with heels” (13) punch needles, and bent scissors from class. The kit comes with a PDF digital download essay of process photographs and descriptions that walk you through starting, punching, and finishing your piece. This will be sent to the email that you use in the checkout as part of your receipt.
The physical part of the kit includes colorful wool yarn (from our sheep!) and cotton fabric backing with hand-traced design. If this part of the kit needs to be shipped to you, shipping options are available in the checkout process. This kit does not include the frame or tools mentioned above (available separately if needed). You will also want additional materials should you decide to turn it into a pillow.
Makes 1 design.
Enjoy!
