Introducting new style of class: Stash Busters!
Class is held Thursdays, 2-4 pm CST via Zoom. August 24-31. Sessions will not be recorded.
Looking for a fun and creative project that will help you declutter your stash? Punch needle technique (whether Oxford style fine or Ultra-punch) is a fun way to use up leftover yarn. In this class, which features the delightful Josephine knot, you’ll learn how to draw your own Celtic knot, as well as punch on wool fabric. In our first session, we’ll focus on creating the design and start punching, with lots of options for customization. In the second session, cutting, stitching, assembly, and edge finishing options, including using or not using a liner. Each creation will be delightful and unique, as we use fabric and yarns in our stashes.
These creations are also great as gifts or as a small item to add to your collection of handmade goods for sale. Once you learn how to make them, it’s likely no wool fabric is safe! You are welcome to work on as many Celtic knots as you desire during class.
Materials to gather from your stash:
- Washed wool fabric (upcycling works great!) at least ?x? inches in size.
- Gripper strip, Q-snap, or hoop frame for adding tension to your fabric, with an interior working size of at least 8 inches.
- Punch needle: recommend the Oxford #14 and #13 or the Ultra-punch, though if you are comfortable with a different tool, that could be an option too.
- Yarn or thread of your choice that works well in your punch needle. Shown in the examples, I used a worsted/light aran wool yarn in the Oxford fine needles and pearl cotton on the large needle size for my Ultra-punch.
- Liner material or already-made interior bag for your clutch (if desired)
- Fabric and thread scissors.
- Sharpie or marking pen. Dressmaker’s chalk or pencils also work well, or a combination!
- Needle, thread, and pins/fabric clips for assembly.
