It almost feels like the tapestry police might come knocking, wondering what on earth you’re doing with your loom, but pulled warp technique is both fun and a unique adventure. This class incorporates two distinct pulled warp methods–wedge weave and using voids. These voids are then pulled closed once the piece comes off the loom to create the fan-shaped tail of the peacock. To transform our piece into something even more magical, we’ll needle felt the “bust” of the peacock and add beads and feathers. The end result is truly stunning! Prepare to jump outside the box and work tapestry in an adventurous new way. This course is recommended for students who have completed Intro to Tapestry Level-3, but you can also reach out to Laura to enquire if this advanced class is the right fit for you.
Included in the materials kit ($95 value) is wool yard from Laura’s sheep, gilded embroidery thread, beads, roving, felting needle, peacock feathers, felt mounting board, cartoon, card stock spacers, and PDF photo essay instructions. Students should also supply their frame loom and small weaving tools, needle and thread (blue or black works great) as well as warp. Maysville cotton carpet warp is strongly recommended.
Sessions run 2-4 pm Central, January 6, 13, 20, and 27, and Feb 3 and 10. This class will be recorded for the exclusive use of students to reference for a month after the class date.
