Summertime is Coming
“When do the wood-fired pizzas start?” has been the perpetual question at Farmstead. As we enter summer eight for the Creamery, there’s a full schedule in place to help you enjoy having time down at the farm, taste the difference of local and fresh choices, and soak up the engaging cultural events hosted here. So as promised, here’s the scoop!
Our summer 2019 schedule rolls out on Memorial Weekend (starting the Friday of that week), with not only wood-fired pizzas but also farm-to-table dinners, open mic, needle felting classes, live music, Celtic sessions, Bismark Sundays, and more! Experience for yourself what USA Today named “A true farm-to-table experience”. Capacity is limited, so we strongly recommend that you make a reservation for these special events. Dietary constraints are respected—just let us know when making your reservation. Read on to learn more about what will be happening down on the farm this summer.
Wood-Fired Thursdays 5-8 pm
NEW for 2019! Come enjoy a foodie’s heaven for an evening on the farm. Chef Kara takes ingredients grown and raised right here on our farm and transforms them with her culinary artistry into delicious starter plates and entrees, utilizing our outdoor wood-fired oven. Enjoy our outdoor seating and canopies, savor the Open Mic session, visit the celebrity animals, watch the crew of hummingbirds, tuck into a cup of gelato, and enjoy the experience of a meal on the farm that raised it.
Hosted Open Mic (with Wood-Fired Thurs. event), 6-8 pm
Building on the momentum of our Spoken Word Performances, this year our Hosted Open Mic invites poets, storytellers, musicians, comedians, thespians, and the fish-that-got-away yarn spinners to join us at the pergola stage on Wood-Fired Thursdays. Creative expression is integral to the full human experience, and all ages are welcome to participate in this family-friendly, non-competitive event. Savor a wood-fired special, laugh and clap, bring something to share, and enjoy an evening on the farm.
Needle Felt Fridays 2-4 pm
Needle Felting is fun! We’ll use hand-dyed wool from our sheep to make your own adorable critter (a new project each week). All supplies are included with the class, and no previous experience is necessary. Great for ages 8 to 108. $25 per person. 10 student cap. Check out our online calendar of events (or Facebook page) to see which projects are featured each week.

For those of you who have been yearning for an immersive experience with the visionary and innovative team that is North Star Homestead Farms and Farmstead Creamery, this is a must-attend culinary event for you! Learn to Make a Wood-Fired Pizza 4 pm
NEW for 2019! Enjoy a rare opportunity to learn from Chef Kara the art of making a wood-fired pizza with an ancient grains crust and fresh-off-the-farm ingredients. This is a hands-on lesson and tasting session that lets you experience first-hand our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. Exclusive to 4 students per night.
Pizza Farm Night 5-8 pm
Join us for a Farmstead classic farm-to-fork experience! Chef Kara will be at our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven, transforming her homemade ancient grains dough into artisan 12-inch pizzas topped with the deliciousness of the farm and local cheeses. Enjoy our outdoor seating and canopies, savor the live music of the evening, visit the celebrity animals, watch the crew of hummingbirds, tuck into a cup of gelato, and enjoy an evening on the farm. Only 40 pizzas available per evening.
Acoustic Music Series (with Pizza Farm event), 6-8 pm
Join us on the farm for our 7th season of featuring local and regional acoustic musicians of diverse genres during our wood-fired pizza farm event! Be serenaded amidst the dragonflies and hummingbirds in our outdoor seating areas near the pergola stage or slip inside Farmstead Creamery for a cozy bistro atmosphere if the weather is inclement. Remember to make your reservations ahead of time for the pizzas and come early for the best seats! New artist featured each week, so check out our online calendar or Facebook page to see who’s playing when.
Bismark Sundays 9 am-3 pm
A Farmstead breakfast favorite with a serious following, you too can enjoy these puffy crepes baked in a super-hot oven and wrapped around your choice of filling and a side. Seasonal-inspired fillings might include sweet fruit options such as blueberries or apples, or you can select savory options such as scrambled eggs and veggies or stews. Each Sunday’s Bismark options can change, depending on what we’re harvesting on the farm. They are always made fresh just for you and delicious!
Writer’s Circle (2nd Sundays of the month) 2-4 pm
Join us for a welcoming gathering of writers, with an open invitation to word-lovers of all medium and experience levels. This event is FREE, so please bring a notebook of your choice. In the spirit of Natalie Goldberg’s “Writing Down the Bones,” the focus of these gatherings will be to infuse our practices with timed writing exercises, based on prompts. The format is: write, read, write, read, (rather than critique), so embrace the adventure!
Celtic Session (4th Sundays of the month) 2-4 pm
Join us either outside or in the Fiber Loft for a festive afternoon of Celtic melodies and songs. Bring an instrument, sing along, and learn a new tune at the gathering. Hosted by vocalist and Celtic harper Laura Berlage. Musicians of all skill levels are welcome–as are listeners!
Sounds like fun? Come join us this summer, down on the farm!
