Claim Your Creativity
Creative expression is part of what makes humanity so interesting. It peeks out in little places—an artful homemade pie, a bouquet of flowers cut from the garden, a hand-knitted pair of socks or hat. And it splashes out is larger ways—an artfully arranged and decorated home, a photography spree on birds that visit the lake, or an art instillation in the waiting room of a medical clinic.
These expressions of creativity bring interest, joy, or curiosity to our day. Receiving a gift from the hands that made it (whether that be a photography card or that pair of socks) is a real honor. Time, vision, and effort are wrapped into the object or experience (like music or theater), effort we often tell ourselves we don’t have time to explore in our own lives.
Julia Cameron, author of “The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity” has often run into this roadblock in her students.
“Do you know how old I’ll be once I learn how to (play the piano, paint, act, etc.)?”
“As old as you’ll be if you don’t!” is her honest response.
So yes, you CAN give yourself permission to paint, act, make music, write, dance, shoot films, knit those crazy socks, and make the artful pies. But you have to choose to start. You have to say a holy YES to the creative process.
Is there a way to get started? Can you find comrades on this journey? YES! Join us at Farmstead this Thursday (the12th) and claim your creativity through a new workshop series offered at Farmstead.
Inspired by Julia Cameron’s book “The Artist’s Way,” this workshop series offers powerful ways to unblock your flow, explore creativity potential, and invite your inner artist to an insightful and playful “artist date” experience. Co-taught by Laura Berlage and John Adler. Give your creativity an energizing reboot and awakening.
12-part workshop series, $24 per class. Come as often as you can, and you can jump in at any time in the series. While the book is not required, it’s a great resource. For creative people of all types and genres–or those who wish to be more creative. Gatherings are on second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 4 to 6 pm. Please join us!
